Submission - Sarah Jordan - Preferred Access Route to Overdale - 15 January 2021

Dear Sirs

Initially, in view of the fact St Saviour's Hospital & Warwick Farm had been dismissed as possible sites for the new hospital, I was in favour of Overdale as the best location.

However, in view of the fact that more information has come to light indicating:-

1)the size of the footprint

2)the amount & type of nearby properties required to be purchased 3)the impact on west park parking/gardens in pierson road

4)the impact on westmount & people's park

5)the potential impact on the wildlife on the proposed westmount works

I am distressed at, what appears to be, information in the public domain, post the decision that Overdale will be the chosen site requiring such huge negative impact on the population of the Island.

I read a suggestion that the General Hospital remain in town for accident & emergencies with associated support & surgery facilities & any new smaller hospital could therefore be built on the current Overdale site, without the need for all the current proposed disruption, or further away from town for outpatients/elective surgery etc. Something to consider?

There are other issues which I think need consideration, which are:-

i)the way forward on population control has not been established-will we still need a hospital of the new proposed size?

ii)the jersey care model has not been agreed formally & to my knowledge, the GP's are not on board. How will this, either in place or not, affect the health facilities proposed?

iii)bearing in mind the financial pressures on the Island in the wake of Covid, will the Island be able to afford the "world class" all singing & dancing hospital envisaged when we are, after all, an Island? Should we not be reviewing the financial impact, as well as the other issues above, & cut our cloth accordingly?
