ATF Fuels – 17th August 2022 Dear Deputy Mezec,

Thank you for the opportunity to share our views in relation to the 'mini-budget'. At the outset we welcome all moves to support our customers during this cost-of-living crisis.

Rather than go through each of the questions set we would make three broad points.

- firstly, we understand and acknowledge the position of government to consider any changes to fuel duty in a further debate. We welcome this and believe that there is an opportunity for treasury to consider a more dynamic approach to fuel duty that allows treasury to react more quickly to major swings in fuel prices. We also support any consideration of how the duty mechanism might support a transition to biofuels or electrification.

- secondly, we believe that this government should look at the long-term structure of the fuel market to ensure that it is competitive and dynamic and is delivering the best value for customers. We do believe that we need to take a more long-term approach that balances cost, security of supply and environmental issues more clearly

- lastly, we continue to believe that government can and should support the introduction of Biofuels as a transition fuel.

I apologise for the brevity of this response, but I am always happy to discuss in more detail. Kind regards,

Jonathan
