We are writing in response to your request for information about connecting property onto the mains sewerage network.

We are the owner/occupiers of a house

We are not on mains drains. When we moved here 16 years ago, we were quoted £23,000 for connecting to mains drains, and at the time this was out of our reach. The connection would have involved needing a pump (with ongoing maintenance issues) and digging up

in order to connect to the mains  . We had the option to connect to a neighbours property going in the opposite direction, until it was discovered that the current pipework was too small to take the extra capacity. This information came from Public Works.

We are happy with the current tight tank system, including the two free "empties" per annum. This system has never caused us any issues.

However, our house currently only has two occupants, and having four bedrooms, at some future date this position might need revisiting, so if there was any move to upgrade drains in this area, that might be the right opportunity.

Yours faithfully,
