Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel People and Culture
With reference to the conduct of the SEB regarding the ongoing pay dispute with the NEU, NASUWT, and NAHT, I would raise the following points:
- The SEB repeatedly fail to listen and acknowledge the demands placed on teachers.
- They have been complicit in publishing misleading information.
- They are divisive in their approach to the different unions and seem to be adopting a divide and conquer policy.
- They are oblivious to the fact that education is in a real crisis due to underfunding, understaffing, and a cut in real terms pay.
The net result is:
• A complete distrust in their ability to listen let alone negotiate next year.
• Staff morale in schools at an all time low.
• Students being taught in classes that are too big, but non-specialist teachers.
• Courses axed because of underfunding.
• Teachers leaving the profession and/or island in their droves.
• If the Government want a world class education then they have to pay for it - learn from the Fins.
