The Meals on Wheels service delivers meals to many islanders. The recipients pay

£3.80 for each hot, two-course meal that they receive from us. Quite a few pay

monthly by bank transfer (although we suspect that most of those payments are being paid by younger family members as opposed to by the recipients themselves). Many

pay monthly by cheque. However, there are still a few who pay daily by cash - which we are happy to accommodate. These individuals either do not have a bank account or

they prefer to do their budgeting by cash. To suggest at this point in time that cash should be phased out is, in our opinion, absurd. It would also be highly discriminatory against those older islanders who have not transitioned into a digital world.

With best wishes
