Sent to: Scrutiny Communications <Scrutiny@gov.je> Hello,
I am just writing to share my views on the new law that will allow same sex couples to be granted legal parent status and parental responsibility.
My name is [redacted], my partner [redacted] and I had a baby in [redacted] 2023. He was born via reciprocal IVF, I carried [redacted] egg.
Due to the existing law, [redacted] is unable to be named on the birth certificate of her own son which also means that she is unable to gain any parental responsibility for him, we understand that at the moment the only way for her to do this is for her to adopt him or get a residence order. Both of which feel ridiculous considering he was made using her egg.
Our boy should be just as entitled as any other child to have both of his parents named on his birth certificate.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss this further. Kind regards,
[redacted]
