Education (Grants and Allowances) (2022 Academic Year) (Jersey) Order 2022. Minister for Children and Education.

The Education (Grants and Allowances) (2022 Academic Year) (Jersey) Order 2022 increases by a further 7.2% of the 2021 academic year rate, for the 2022 academic year only, the amount of maintenance grant awarded to students with relevant income (as defined in the Education (Grants and Allowances) (Jersey) Order 2018) of less than £90,000 per year, or less than £100,000 per year in the case of students studying medicine, dentistry, nursing or veterinary science.

Article 1 is an interpretation provision.

Article 2 explains which students are eligible for the increase in the maintenance grant.

Article 3 sets out the amount of the increase in the maintenance grant by reference to the student's relevant income. The Education (Grants and Allowances) (Amendment No. 3) (Jersey) Order 2022 increased by 2.9% the amount of the maintenance grant for all students on courses in the 2022 academic year. The additional one-off cost of living increase to the maintenance grant awarded to eligible students specified in this Order represents an overall increase of 10.1%.

Article 4 makes minor housekeeping amendments to the Education (Grants and Allowances) (Jersey) Order 2018. Those amendments will not cease to have effect upon the expiry of this Order under Article 5.

Article 5 provides for the title by which this Order may be cited, for it to come into force on the day after the Minister for Children and Education signs the Order, and for it to cease to have effect on the day before the start of the academic year commencing on 1st September 2023.

The Order was made on 8th November 2022 and came into force on 9th November 2022.

In accordance with Standing Order 104A, a time limit of 15 minutes applies to speeches made during debate, unless discretion has been exercised to allow for a longer, or shorter, time limit. No time limit applies to either speech made by the proposer.
