THE STATES are asked to decide whether they are of opinion

to request the Minister for Infrastructure to instruct LibertyBus to enable free access with immediate effect to the town Hopper bus for Active Card holders travelling to Springfield Gym and exercise facilities, for an initial trial period to 31st December 2023.

REPORT

The move of sports facilities from Fort regent to Springfield has been accompanied with an increase pressure on the parking infrastructure around Springfield stadium. Both for sports users and residents. To address some of these travel pressures, this proposition seeks to enable free access to the hopper bus that stops outside the facility to active card users. This is a significant number of people who will access for gym and wider exercise facilities.

This initial period of around 7 months will give some time for alternative travel plans to be created and promoted. This may mean an extension or permanent provision of this free facility. This can be decided following an analysis of its impact.

Financial and manpower implications

There is no extra cost of the bus route as it currently exists. Indeed, it is not widely used and therefore this change could be effective in popularising the route for later travel.
