50th Anniversary of the Liberation - loyal address

THE STATES, adopting a proposition of Senator Reginald Robert Jeune , agreed that an address in the following terms should be transmitted to Her Majesty The Queen to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Liberation of the Island -

TO THE QUEEN'S MOST EXCELLENT MAJESTY.

T HE LOYAL AND DUTIFUL ADDRESS OF THE A SSEMBLY OF THE STATES OF THE ISLAND OF J ERSEY.

M AY IT PLEASE YOUR MAJESTY. W e, the States of the Island of Jersey, in

s pecial Session assembled, beg leave to

o ffer to Your Majesty our loyal greetings

o n the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary

o f the Liberation of the Island.

O n this special occasion we remember with p articular pride and gratitude the gracious m essage which your late father, His Majesty K ing George VI, sent to the people of the

C hannel Islands on 10th May, 1945,

w elcoming them on their restoration to

f reedom and to their rightful place with

t he free nations of the World. We rejoice

t hat we have been able to build upon the

f oundation of the freedom thus restored and t o enjoy during the past fifty years the

p rivileges of our ancient association with

t he Crown. In honouring those who fought h alf a century ago for the cause of freedom w e express our hope that in the conduct of

o ur affairs we may demonstrate a spirit of

t olerance and play our part in serving the

c ause of peace and reconciliation amongst

a ll peoples.

W e rejoice in the fact that our loyalty to

t he Crown remains undimmed and that Your M ajesty is to be represented at our

c elebrations on this anniversary by His

R oyal Highness, The Prince of Wales. We

t ake particular pleasure in being able on

t his special occasion to renew to Your

M ajesty the continued allegiance and

d evotion of the States and People of Jersey

t o Your Majesty's Throne and Person.''

Liberation tablet: acceptance of 50th anniversary gift from La Société Jersiaise

The Bailiff informed the Assembly that the gift from La Société Jersiaise of a stone tablet commemorating the liberation of the Island, previously accepted by the States, had now been installed. Members expressed their appreciation of the gift.
