Question
Given the publicised delays in processing student finance claims, will the Minister advise -
- the number of students, in the Island, who are awaiting confirmation of grants;
- the number of students, off-Island, who are awaiting confirmation of grants; and
- whether any students have had their student finance claim rejected or reduced, resulting in their inability to continue or start a course?

(c) Claims can be rejected if applicants do not meet certain eligibility criteria, such as residency, previous qualifications or if their relevant income is too high. Similarly, claims can be reduced due to changes in circumstances when compared to a previous year. I do not have details of anyone unable to continue or start a course.
Student Finance recently moved to Customer and Local Services (CLS) and this enabled additional resources to be deployed to the team to minimise delays in processing. Once the current applications have been processed, work will commence to improve the service and I can provide an update on this in the New Year.
