REPORT
The Scrutiny Panel is conducting an inquiry into the waste management strategy of the Environment and Public Services Department and Committee. It might well transpire as a result of this scrutiny that alternative procedures and practices could provide the Island with a commercially keener way to deal with some of its wastes which are handled at this site. To sign a 9-year lease at this stage will bind the hands of the States in promoting these options. The lease accordingly should be for a shorter period to allow for proper consultation to take place. A 2- year period will give the States this flexibility.
There are no manpower or financial implications from this amendment.
