STATEMENT AS TO THE NUMBER OF BIRTHS, MARRIAGES AND DEATHS REGISTERED IN THE TWELVE PARISHES OF THE ISLAND DURING 2009

The Minister for Home Affairs has the honour to present the following statistics for the year 2009.

  1. Statement as to the number of births, marriages and deaths registered in the 12 parishes of the Island during the year 2009:

  1. When  the  various  re-registrations  are  deducted  from  the  official  birth registrations shown above, the actual number of children born in the Island in 2009 was 1,010. Owing to a clerical error, the number of live births reported for 2008 was 973 and should correctly have been 1,048 (18 more than the previous year).
  2. There were no stillbirths in the Island in 2009.
  3. The number  of  marriages  performed  in the  Office  of  the  Superintendent Registrar in 2009 was 183. This was 41 less than in the previous year. A further 174 civil marriages were celebrated in Approved Premises, 6 more

than  in  the  previous  year.  The  most  popular  months  for  marriages  were August (90), and July and September (70 and 78 respectively).

  1. During the year, 142 couples came to the Island to be married. This is 13 less than in the previous year. The most popular months for visitors were August
    1. followed by July (20) and September (19).
  2. The number of deaths registered in 2009 is 16 more than in the previous year.
