STATES OF JERSEY

JERSEY COMMUNITY RELATIONS TRUST: APPOINTMENT OF TRUSTEE

Presented to the States on 19th December 2014 by the Minister for Home Affairs

STATES GREFFE

2014   Price code: A  R.184

2 REPORT

The constitution of the Jersey Community Relations Trust (the Trust') provides that the Committee of Trustees shall comprise an independent Chair, a member of the States  of Jersey,  who  is  committed  to  the  objectives  of  the Trust,  and  a  further 5 trustees,  who  are  not  States  members,  and  who  are  appointed  by  the  existing Trustees.

The trustee, who is a member of the States of Jersey, shall be appointed by the Minister for Home Affairs, having given at least 15 days' notice to the States of Jersey of her intention to make the appointment. Trustees are ordinarily appointed for a period of 4 years, and in the case of the member of the States, the appointment would be for a period of 4 years or for as long as they remain a member of the States, whichever shall be the shorter period.

The previous States representative on the Trust was former Deputy S.S. Power of St. Brelade . I would like to express publicly my gratitude to him for his contribution to the Trust during the period from April 2009 until November this year.

In order to find a new States representative for the Trust, the Minister for Home Affairs contacted all States Members to ascertain whether any would be interested in becoming a Trustee. Those who responded in the affirmative were asked to provide a written  statement  of up to  500 words, setting  out why  they  wanted to  become  a Trustee  and  what  they  thought  that  they  could  contribute  to  the  Trust.  The Appointments Commission were to be invited to be involved in the shortlisting and interview process, if required.

Deputy  L.M.C. Doublet  of   St. Saviour  was  the  only  States  member  to  provide  a written statement; and the need for the Appointments Commission to be involved in the process therefore falls away.

Deputy Doublet has demonstrated her commitment to the objectives of the Trust, and the Minister for Home Affairs therefore gives notice to the States of her intention to appoint Deputy Doublet as a Trustee to the Jersey Community Relations Trust for a period of 4 years, or until such time as Deputy Doublet leaves the States, whichever shall be the shorter.
