REPORT

The Minister for Home Affairs presents the following statistics for the year 2014 –

  1. Statement as to the number of births and deaths, marriages and civil partnerships registered in the 12 parishes of the Island during 2014.

  1. When  the  various  re-registrations1 are  deducted  from  the  official  birth registrations shown above, the number of children born in the Island in 2014 was 989.
  2. There were 3 stillbirths in the Island in 2014.
  3. The number  of  marriages  performed  in the  Office  of  the  Superintendent Registrar in 2014 was 180. This was 2 more than in the previous year. A further 186 civil marriages were celebrated in Approved Premises, 13 more than  in the  previous  year.  The  most  popular  months  for  marriages  were August (99), September (72) and July (71).
  4. During the year, 94 couples came to the Island to be married. This is 25 less than in the previous year. The most popular months for visitors were July (25) and August (16).

1 Births can be re-registered under two of the Articles of the Marriage and Civil Status (Jersey)

Law 2001 (under Article 56, when adding the natural father's name for the birth of a child whose parents were not married to each other at the time the birth was registered; or under Article 57, when a child is legitimated by the subsequent marriage of his or her parents and a submission is made by the parents to the Superintendent Registrar for re-registration of the birth, or where the legitimation of a person is established by judgment of the Royal Court).

  1. The number of deaths registered in 2014 was 682, 37 less than in the previous year.
  2. In 2014, there were 13 civil partnership ceremonies (14 fewer than in the previous year), which included 3 couples who came to the Island for their ceremony.
