MACHINERY OF GOVERNMENT REFORM: COMPOSITION AND ELECTION OF THE STATES ASSEMBLY (P.151/2004) COMMENTS

Presented to the States on 26th October 2004 by the Policy and Resources Committee

STATES GREFFE

COMMENTS

The priority for the Policy and Resources Committee is the introduction of Ministerial Government, in accordance with the States decision of September 2001, which is scheduled for late 2005. The Committee is of the view that any changes to the composition and election of the States Assembly should be planned and implemented in such a manner as to be consistent with that decision.

The Committee is satisfied that Ministerial Government can operate effectively within any of the proposed structures and will vigorously oppose any proposals or moves which may have the effect of delaying or negating its introduction.
