DEVELOPMENT OF A CULTURAL STRATEGY FOR THE ISLAND (P.154/2005): COMMENTS

Presented to the States on 30th August 2005 by the Economic Development Committee

STATES GREFFE

COMMENTS

The Committee broadly supports the aspirations of the Cultural Strategy but stresses that any subsequent policies must be in line with those of the Economic Growth Plan. For example, support for development of the creative industries must be in line with the Enterprise Strategy that the Committee is developing as part of the Economic Growth Plan. The Committee regrets, however, that it is not in a position to allocate additional funding to the strategy from within its existing budgets.

The Committee also considers that it is premature to rely upon the National Lottery as a source of funding for the strategy in advance of a decision by the U.K. Government and the States to extend it.
