ASSEMBLÉE PARLEMENTAIRE DE LA FRANCOPHONIE, JERSEY BRANCH – BRANCH RULES (P.203/2009) – COMMENTS

Presented to the States on 28th January 2010 by the Council of Ministers

STATES GREFFE

2009   Price code: A  P.203 Com.

COMMENTS

The Council of Ministers notes that the Jersey Branch of the Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie has an important role maintaining links at a political level with the Members and officials in French-speaking parliaments.

Ministers welcome the proposals to formalise the governance of the Jersey Branch, including the principle that all States Members who have a good standard of French should  be  eligible  to  become  members  of  the  Branch,  and  may  attend  General Meetings to appoint the President and Executive Committee.

Finally, it is considered the engagement of many States members in the wider forum of the Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie makes a significant contribution to the development of Jersey's international identity and is fully supported.
