Following discussion with the Council of Ministers, the Minister for Treasury and Resources signed a Ministerial Decision on 2nd February 2009 to prioritise use of 2008 departmental under-spends to meet the legal costs of former employees of Woolworths plc. in pursuing their rights through the Royal Court. The Minister believes that this represents the best approach to supporting those former employees and will establish case law in the event of any similar cases in the future. Every possible assistance will be given to the former Woolworths employees during the legal process.
