STATES OF JERSEY
STATES MEMBERS' REMUNERATION: RECONSIDERATION OF 2011 INCREASE AND REPEAL OF
ARTICLE 44 OF THE STATES OF JERSEY LAW 2005 (P.127/2010) – AMENDMENT (P.127/2010 Amd.) – COMMENTS
Presented to the States on 18th October 2010 by the Privileges and Procedures Committee
STATES GREFFE
2010 Price code: A P.127 Amd.Com.
COMMENTS
The Privileges and Procedures Committee has already made it clear in its comments on the Senator Shenton's proposition that it does not support paragraph (b) which suggests that Article 44 of the States of Jersey Law 2005 should be repealed so that differential systems of remuneration could be introduced. As a result PPC does not support this amendment to paragraph (b).
If members were minded to agree the repeal Article 44 PPC does not consider that it would be appropriate to re-introduce means-testing as suggested in this amendment. PPC believes it would be a retrograde step to overturn the decision taken in 2003 that remuneration should be available to all members without means-testing.
