CHIEF OFFICER OF THE STATES OF JERSEY POLICE FORCE: APPOINTMENT (P.30/2010) COMMENTS

Presented to the States on 8th April 2010

COMMENTS

On 30th March the Education and Home Affairs Panel held a public hearing with Senator B.I. Le Marquand, the Minister for Home Affairs, and Deputy J.A. Hilton, Assistant Minister, to discuss P.30/2010 Chief Officer of the States of Jersey Police Force: Appointment.

The Panel considers that the appointments process is fundamentally flawed and is concerned by the speed with which the Minister for Home Affairs is seeking to appoint a new Chief Officer before the ongoing suspension issues have been resolved. The Panel finds the situation highly unsatisfactory, and in an attempt to partially resolve the issue would seek a delay in the debate on this proposition, to provide an opportunity for the suspension issues to finally be resolved.
