Tabling of subordinate legislation.

The following enactment was laid before the States, namely –

Telecommunications (Telegrams) (Amendment) (Jersey) Order, 1983. R & O 7194.

Industrial Relations Committee – appointment of member.

THE  STATES  appointed   Deputy  Leonard  Norman  of St. Clement as a member of the Industrial Relations Committee to replace the late Deputy Alfred Durell Le Brocq of St. John .

Education Committee – appointment of member.

THE STATES appointed Connétable Charles Alan Le Maistre of Grouville as a member of the Education Committee to replace the late Deputy Alfred Durell Le Brocq of St. John .

Broadcasting Committee Report 1982. R.C.16.

The Broadcasting Committee by Act dated 21st June, 1983 presented to the States its Report for 1982.

THE STATES ordered that the said Report be printed and distributed.

Petition with regard to the sentencing of persons convicted in the Police Court: Report. P.101/83.

The Legislation Committee by Act dated 13th June, 1983 presented to the States the Report on the Petition with regard to the sentencing of persons convicted in the Police Court (P.80/82 – lodged on 8th June, 1982).

THE STATES ordered that the said Report be printed and distributed.

  1. Draft Safeguarding of Workers (Electricity at Work) (Jersey) Regulations, 198 . P.98/83. Presented by the Social Security Committee. The States decided to take this subject into consideration on 26th July, 1983.
  2. St. Helier Traffic Plan: Queen's Road/Rouge Bouillon junction. P.99/83.

Presented by Senator Richard Joseph Shenton.

  1. Rezoning of agricultural land. P.100/83.

Presented by Senator Richard Joseph Shenton. The States decided to take this subject into consideration on 23rd August, 1983.

Committee of Inquiry into Parish Rates.

THE STATES, having accepted an amendment of Senator Jane Patricia Sandeman that for the word "Commission" there should be substituted the word "Committee", adopted a Proposition of Senator Richard Joseph Shenton and agreed to appoint a Committee of Inquiry to inquire whether the mode of levying rate in the Parishes of the Island, the assessment of rental values, the making and collection of the rate and the general administration of the Parish rate system, as provided for in the Parish Rate (Administration) (Jersey) Law, 1946, as amended, are appropriate to present-day conditions and to make recommendations thereon.

Les Quennevais Playing Fields: Phase II.

THE STATES, adopting a Proposition of the Education Committee, approved in principle the Second Phase of Les Quennevais Playing Fields Development.

Magistrates' Court and Superintendent Registrar: new accommodation. Withdrawn. P.91/83.

THE STATES commenced consideration of a Proposition of the Public Works Committee regarding the provision of new Magistrates' Courts and ancillary offices and accommodation for the Superintendent Registrar on land owned by the States in Hue Street, St. Helier .

After discussion, the Committee withdrew the Proposition. THE STATES rose at 12.50 p.m.
