Additional  water  resources –  appointment  of  Committee  of Inquiry. P.128/85.

THE  STATES  rejected  a  Proposition  of   Deputy  Robin  Ernest Richard Rumboll of St. Helier

  1. to appoint a Committee of Inquiry under Article 30of the States of Jersey Law, 1966, to inquire into and evaluate the financial, legal and environmental factors relating  to  ways  of providing  additional  water resources;

  1. to agree that the Committee so appointed under paragraph (2) should be designated a Committee of Inquiry for the purposes of Articles 41 to 46 inclusive and Article 49of the said Law;
  2. to agree –
  1. that no further steps be taken to implement the States' decision of 11th November, 1980, to construct a reservoir in Queen's Valley; and
  2. that the draft Queen's Valley Reservoir (Jersey) Law, 198 (P.115/85) should not be debated;

until after the Committee of Inquiry has presented its findings to the States.

THE STATES acceded to the request of Senator Richard Joseph Shenton that consideration of the proposed amendment to the dégrèvement procedure (lodged on 20th August, 1985) be deferred from the present Sitting to 19th November, 1985.

Arrangement of Public Business. THE STATES decided –

  1. to defer consideration of the draft Queen's Valley Reservoir (Jersey) Law, 198 (P.115/85 – lodged on 8th October, 1985) from 19th November to 26th November, 1985;
  2. to take into consideration on 19th November the draft Shops (Sunday Trading) (No. 6) (Jersey) Regulations, 198 (P.72/85 – lodged on 16th July 1985), previously set down for 26th November, 1985; and
  3. to take into consideration on 19th November all those items set down for debate on 26th November, 1985,at the previous meeting.
