MAY IT PLEASE YOUR MAJESTY.
We, the States of the Island of Jersey, in special Session assembled, beg leave to offer to Your Majesty our loyal greetings on the occasion of the Fortieth Anniversary of the liberation of the Island.
On this special occasion we remember with particular pride and gratitude the gracious message which your late father, His Majesty King George VI, sent to the people of the Channel Islands on 10th May, 1945, welcoming them on their restoration to freedom and to their rightful place with the free nations of the World. message, which so gladdened and encouraged the hearts of those people in Jersey who had endured the long period of enemy occupation, His Majesty also stated that it was his earnest hope that the Channel Islands, reinstated in their ancestral relationship to the Crown, would soon regain their former happiness and prosperity and resume their accustomed system of government.
We are proud that, with the co-operation of successive governments of Your Majesty, we have been able during the past forty years to practise that accustomed system of government and the Island has thereby regained its former happiness and prosperity. We rejoice in the fact that we have maintained our devotion to Your Majesty's Royal House and we take particular pleasure in being able on this special occasion to renew to Your Majesty the continued allegiance and loyalty of the States and People of Jersey to Your Majesty's Throne and Person.
THE STATES then adjourned.
