THE STATES acceded to the request of the Vice-President of the Public Works Committee that the Proposition relating to the capital projects for 1987 of that Committee (lodged on 3rd June, 1986 and set down for consideration on 17th June, 1986) be withdrawn as a revised Proposition had been lodged at the present Sitting (P.90/86).
Second Report of Special Committee to consider a request from the United Kingdom Government for a contribution towards defence and international representation. P.70/86.
THE STATES, referring to their Act of 6th May, 1986, decided to resolve into a Committee of the Whole House to consider the Second Report of the Special Committee to consider a request from the United Kingdom Government for a contribution towards defence and international representation, immediately after the completion of the roll-call on 24th June, 1986.
Incident involving an off-duty Police Sergeant. Questions and answers.
Deputy Graham Douglas Thorne of St. Brelade asked Senator John William Ellis, President of the Defence Committee, the following questions –
"1. Can the President give the States complete details of
an incident which occurred at La Moye Hotel on the evening of 5th October, 1985, during a silver wedding party, involving an off-duty Police Sergeant?
2. Has there been an enquiry into the incident and, if so, will the President give the full details of the enquiry and the findings arising therefrom?".
The President of the Defence Committee replied as follows –
"1. A complaint was made by a member of the public
concerning an incident which occurred at La Moye Hotel on the evening of 5th October, 1985, involving an off-duty police sergeant. I am not prepared to give details of that incident.
2. The incident was investigated and resulted in disciplinary proceedings being taken against the officer concerned who was convicted and punished. This was an internal disciplinary matter and it would be unfair on the officer and against the public interest if I were to give any further particulars.".
