Liberation 50th Anniversary celebrations (P.106/93): comments of the Policy and Resources Committee. P.122/93

The Policy and Resources Committee, by Act dated 3rd August 1993, presented to the States its comments on the proposition of the Occupation and Liberation Committee regarding the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the Island's

Liberation.

THE STATES noted an Act of the Finance and Economics Committee, dated 2nd August 1993, showing that, in pursuance of Standing Orders relating to certain transactions in land, the Committee had approved, as recommended by the Harbours and Airport Committee, the renewal of the lease to Aurigny Air Services Limited of 181 square yards of land at the Airport (Letting

No. L14) for a period of three years with effect from 15th April 1993, at an annual rent of £1,693.36, subject to annual reviews, up to a maximum increase of three per cent.

La Grande Maison Cottage, St. Catherine's Estate, St. Martin : transfer of administration

THE STATES, adopting a proposition of the Agriculture and Fisheries Committee, approved the transfer of administration from the Agriculture and Fisheries Committee to the Housing Committee, of the property known as La Grande Maison Cottage, St. Catherine's Estate, St. Martin as outlined in the Agriculture and Fisheries Committee's report dated 22nd July 1993.

Sport, Leisure and Recreation Department - release from contract of Chief Executive Officer: appointment of Special Committee

THE STATES commenced consideration of a proposition of Senator John Stephen Rothwell to appoint a Special Committee, independent of the States, to inquire into the circumstances which led to Miss Mary Frances Alexander, Chief Executive Officer of the Sport, Leisure and Recreation Department, being released from her contract of employment, and the reasons for agreeing to the settlement reached and to report thereon to the States.

Following advice from the Solicitor General that the setting up of a Special Committee in the manner proposed was ultra vires'' and

unlikely to achieve its intended purpose, the States, after an adjournment, granted Senator Rothwell leave to withdraw his proposition.

The States extended their thanks to Advocate Ralph Vibert , O.B.E., Jurat Mazel Joan Le Ruez and Mr. Ian Thomas for allowing their names to be put forward as members of the proposed Special Committee.

THE STATES, subject to the sanction of Her Most Excellent Majesty in Council, adopted a Law entitled the Public Finances (Administration) (Amendment No. 7) (Jersey) Law 1993.

Sea Fisheries talks - communication from the Home Office

The Bailiff informed the House that he was in receipt of a letter sent by the Home Office to His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, Air Marshal Sir John Sutton, K.C.B., indicating that the Home Secretary would be glad to meet a delegation from Jersey to discuss fisheries problems, and also the timing of an extension of the territorial sea.
