MV Saint-Malo'' rescue: recommendations - R.C. 29/95
Deputy John Nicolle Le Fondré, President of the Harbours and Airport Committee, made a statement in the following terms -
Members of the States will recall the
i ncident involving the MV Saint-Malo' off
C orbière on Monday, 17th April 1995 when
t he vessel struck rocks at high speed
w hilst carrying 300 passengers and seven
c rew. Fortunately as a result of excellent
w ork carried out by the rescue services and
o ther vessels nearby, there was no loss of
l ife. Soon after, my Committee commissioned t he Marine Accident Investigation Branch in
t he United Kingdom to undertake a full
i nquiry and the results of that inquiry
w ere published in September. Since that
t ime discussions have been held with the
M arine Safety Agency of the Department of
T ransport in the United Kingdom and a
n umber of recommendations have now been
a greed which are addressed to the States of
J ersey, Channiland, the Secretariat d'Etat
a la Mer - Affaires Maritime and the
I nternational Maritime Organisation
S ecretariat.
T he matters relating to Jersey are -
1 . placing a navigation mark on La
F r ouq uie rock to ensure it is clearly vi si ble at all states of tide;
2 . keeping the main route through the
pas sage clear of fishing marker buoys i f t he inshore passage at La Corbiere
i s t o c ontinue to be used by high speed cr af t to reduce passenger discomfort;
3 . imposing a speed restriction on all cr af t navigating the passage.
M y Committee will do everything in its
p ower to comply with the recommendations a ddressed to the States. The remainder will b e forwarded to the various organisations
b y the Marine Safety Agency. The full list

Taxis and cabs in Jersey: re-organisation - P.154/95
THE STATES commenced consideration of a proposition of the Public Services Committee regarding the re-organisation of taxis and cabs in Jersey. After discussion, Senator Pierre François Horsfall proposed that the States move to the consideration of the next item on the
order paper, which proposition was carried, more than 20 members voting in support thereof.
