Budget 2001

THE STATES resumed consideration of the Budget and rejected an amendment of the Public Services Committee to increase duty on fuel by one pence per litre, raising additional revenue of approximately £0.5 million.

THE STATES commenced consideration of the draft Finance (Jersey) Law 200- and adopted the Preamble and Articles 1 and  2.

Article 3 was adopted, the Deputy of St. Peter, after discussion, having withdrawn his amendment that in the substituted paragraph (1), for the words "the Friday following the first Monday in December" there should be substituted the words "the last day (disregarding any Saturday or Sunday) in September".

Articles 4, 5, 6 and 7 were adopted.

THE STATES adopted in second reading a Bill to continue to prescribe the standard rate of income tax for the year 2001; to amend further the Income Tax (Jersey) Law 1961 regarding the late payment of tax, relief for child care  and  relief for  charitable  donations; and  to  amend  further  the  Customs and Excise (Jersey)  Law 1999 regarding alcohol and tobacco duty.

The Bill was lodged "au Greffe" in second reading.

THE  STATES,  in  pursuance  of  Article  25  of  the  Public  Finances  (Administration)  (Jersey)  Law  1967,  as amended, declared that the Bill to prescribe the standard rate of income tax for the year 2001; to amend further the Income Tax (Jersey) Law 1961 regarding the late payment of tax, relief for child care and relief for charitable donations; and to amend further the Customs and Excise (Jersey) Law 1999 regarding alcohol and tobacco duty (which Bill has this day been lodged "au Greffe") should immediately have effect as if it were a Law passed by the States and sanctioned by Her Majesty in Council.

THE STATES, having terminated the discussion on the Budget, agreed the summary of the estimated income and revenue expenditure for 2001 appearing on page 71, as amended, of the Budget as follows -

Draft Income Tax (Amendment No. 21)(Jersey) Law 200- - P.208/2000

THE STATES, subject to the sanction of Her Most Excellent Majesty in Council, adopted a Law entitled the Income Tax (Amendment No. 21)(Jersey) Law 200- .

THE  STATES  in  pursuance  of  Article  25  of  the  Public  Finances  (Administration)  (Jersey)  Law  1967,  as amended, declared  that the Bill, with the exception of Part I thereof, to amend further the Income Tax (Jersey) Law 1961 regarding the assessment of the emoluments of an office or employment in the year in which they are received (which Bill was this day passed by the States as the Income Tax (Amendment No. 21) (Jersey) Law 200- ) should immediately have effect as if it were a Law sanctioned by Her Majesty in Council.
