Machinery of Government: proposed reforms - P.122/2001 Amendments (1) to (5) and comments.

THE STATES resumed consideration of the amendments of Deputy Michael Edward Vibert of St. Brelade to the proposition of the Policy and Resources Committee concerning the Machinery of Government: proposed reforms. After discussion the States rejected the amendments.

THE STATES adopted an amendment of Senator Christopher Gerard Pellow Lakeman that in paragraph (a) sub- paragraph  (iv) -

(i ) after the words form a' there should be inserted the words Privileges and';

(i i) after the word arrangements' there should be inserted the words , facilities, remuneration, services

for members of the States'; and

(i ii ) at the end of the sub-paragraph the words members of the States' should be substituted by the word

members';

Deputy Alan Simon Crowcroft of St. Helier sought leave to withdraw an amendment that in sub-paragraph (iv) of paragraph (a), after the wordsarrangements' there be should be inserted the words, the production of a Hansard- type transcript of States' proceedings, public information services,' which leave was refused by the States.

THE STATES then adjourned, having agreed to resume consideration of the proposition of the Policy and Resources Committee regarding the Machinery of Government: proposed reforms and the remaining amendments at 9.30  a.m. on Thursday 27th September 2001.

Change of Presidency

The Bailiff retired from the Chamber during consideration of the amendments of Deputy Michael Edward Vibert of St. Brelade to of the proposition of the Policy and Resources Committee regarding the Machinery of Government: proposed reforms and the meeting continued under the Presidency of Miss Catherine Mary Newcombe, Greffier of the States.
