The Bailiff , on behalf of all members, welcomed the Chief Minister of Guernsey, who was present in the public gallery.

THE STATES noted that, in accordance with the provisions of Standing Order 115(1), two nominations had been received by the Greffier of the States for the office of Chief Minister designate as follows –

In accordance with the provisions set out in Standing Order 116, the Bailiff invited the Greffier of the States to read out the nominations, following which lots were drawn to determine the order in which the candidates would speak for a period up to 10 minutes and be questioned thereafter for a period of up to 40 minutes by elected members; Senator Stuart Syvret was drawn first and Senator Frank Harris on Walker was drawn second. Each candidate withdrew from the Chamber while the other spoke and answered questions during the periods allotted.
THE STATES, having proceeded to a secret ballot, were informed of the results by the Bailiff as follows –

The Bailiff accordingly declared that Senator Frank Harris on Walker had been duly elected as the Chief Minister designate.
