Public Elections A1.  The Committee, with reference to its Minute No. A3 of 19th March 2008 (Amendment No. received and considered the draft Public Elections (Amendment No. 3) (Jersey) Law 3) (Jersey) Law 200-. 200-.

424(7) The Committee, having noted the nature of the proposed amendments, accordingly

approved the draft Law and requested that the projet be lodged "au Greffe" on 6th May 2008. The Committee agreed that, in order for the amendments to be in force for the 2008 elections, the States should be asked to take this item on 3rd June 2008 under the provisions of Standing Order 26(7) which stated that the States may reduce the lodging period if they were of the view that "the proposition relates to a matter of such urgency and importance that it would be prejudicial to Jersey to delay its debate". The Committee agreed that it could be argued that going into the elections without the safeguards on postal voting could be prejudicial to Jersey and that an early debate was justified.

The Greffier of the States was directed to take the necessary action.
