States of Jersey A1. The Committee, with reference to its Minute No. A3 of 27th March 2009, Complaints considered a draft report and proposition in connexion with the re-appointment of the Panel. members of the States of Jersey Complaints Panel.
1386/6/1(2)
The Committee recalled that the Panel had attended the meeting of the Committee on 27th March 2009 when it had been agreed that the members of the present Panel who wished to continue for a further 3-year term should be able to do so, and new members also appointed.
The Committee noted that Mr. B. Curtis from the Appointments Commission would oversee the appointments process and had agreed that the present Chairman, Deputy Chairmen and members of the Complaints Panel who wished to continue could be nominated for re-appointment without any further process in order to ensure continuity. There had been 10 expressions of interest in membership of the Panel following an advertisement in the Jersey Evening Post and the Committee Chairman and the Chairman of the Complaints Panel, Mrs. C. Canavan, had been invited to assist with the selection process. A shortlist of 5 people had been drawn up and would be interviewed during the next 2 weeks.
It was agreed that it would be preferable to lodge the proposition to re-appoint the current members, followed by a further proposition in relation to the new members at a later date, in order to allow complaints to continue to be heard in the meantime.
The Committee accordingly approved the proposition entitled: States of Jersey Complaints Panel: appointment of members,' and requested that it be lodged "au Greffe" at the earliest opportunity for debate on 16th June 2009.
The Greffier of the States was directed to take the necessary action.
