THE STATES commenced consideration of an amendment of the Chief Minister, and, adopting the amendment, agreed that after paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 there should be inserted the following paragraph–
"3 M arriage and Civil Status (Jersey) Law 2001
In Part 3 of the Marriage and Civil Status (Jersey) Law 2001, after Article 40 there shall be inserted the following Article –
4 0 A Solemnization of marriage of person of the acquired gender
A c lergyman is not obliged to solemnize the marriage of a person if the clergyman reasonably
believes that the person is of an acquired gender, within the meaning of Article 1(2) of the Gender Recognition (Jersey) Law 200-.'."

THE STATES, having been informed that the relevant scrutiny panel had indicated that it wished to scrutinise the draft legislation, agreed that continuation of the second reading of the Draft Companies (Amendment No. 10) (Jersey) Law 200- should be deferred until their meeting of 24th February 2009.

THE STATES, having commenced consideration of the Draft Companies (Amendment No. 3) (Jersey) Regulations 200-, agreed that as the matter was dependent upon the approval of the Draft Companies (Amendment No. 10) (Jersey) Law 200-, the matter should be deferred until their meeting of 24th February 2009.

THE STATES commenced consideration of a proposition of the Deputy of St. Martin concerning a review of the role of the unelected members of the States and an amendment of the Privileges and Procedures Committee that in paragraph (a), after the words"current roles of the" there should be inserted the word "following" and –
- t hewords "the Lieutenant-Governor" should bedeleted;
- t hewords "and the Dean" should bedeleted.

THE STATES adjourned, having agreed to reconvene on Wednesday 4th February 2009 to continue consideration of the proposition of the Deputy of St. Martin entitled Rôle of the unelected members of the States: review' (P.5/2009) and the outstanding items of public business.
