Senator S. A1. The Committee, with reference to its Minute No. B1 of 9th February 2010, Syvret: absence received a draft statement to be made by the Chairman on matters relating to from the Island. Senator S. Syvret.

1240/9/2(63) Deputy J.B. Fox drew members' attention to the reference in the draft statement to 1240/9/2(64) Article 8(2) of the States of Jersey Law 2005. The draft statement noted that the
provision allowed for a member to be automatically disqualified if they were resident outside the Island for a period of at least 6 months, although it had not been envisaged at the time of enactment that a member might take up residence in another jurisdiction and not fulfil their obligation to attend the Assembly. The draft statement included a comment that the provision could be revised in due course, and Deputy Fox requested that prompt consideration be given to this matter, with a view to the Committee lodging au Greffe' a proposition to amend Article 8(2).
Having noted the comments of Deputy Fox, the Committee accordingly approved the statement, to be made by the Chairman at the next States sitting on Tuesday 23rd February 2010.
