THE STATES, having been informed that the relevant scrutiny panel had indicated that it did not wish to scrutinise the draft legislation, adopted an amendment of the Minister for Home Affairs to Article 3 that in paragraph (3), after the words "Police Authority" there should be inserted the words "and the Chief Officer" and after paragraph (4) there should be inserted the following paragraph –
"(5) Articles 18(6), 19(3), 20(3) and 26(5) set out the other duties of the Minister in this
Law.".
and an amendment to Article 4 that after paragraph (2) there should be inserted the following paragraph –
"(3) Articles 18(6), 19(1) and 20(1) set out the other duties of the Jersey Police Authority
in this Law.".

THE STATES, adopting an amendment of the Minister for Home Affairs to Article 25, agreed that in paragraph (1) for the word "torts" there should be substituted the words "civil wrongs" and after paragraph (2) there should be added the following paragraphs –
"(3) There shall be paid out of funds provided by the Minister –
- any damages or costs awarded against the Chief Officer in any proceedings brought against the Chief Officer by virtue of this Article;
- any costs incurred and not recovered by the Chief Officer in any such proceedings; and
- any sum required in connection with the settlement of any claim made against the Chief Officer by virtue of this Article, if the settlement is approved by the Minister.
(4) Out of funds provided by the Minister, the Minister may, in such cases and to such extent as he or she thinks fit –
- pay any damages or costs awarded against a member of the Force in proceedings for a civil wrong committed by the member of the Force;
- pay any costs incurred and not recovered by the member of the Force in any such proceedings; and
- pay any sum required in connection with the settlement of any claim that has or might have given rise to such proceedings.".
