THE STATES rejected a proposition of Deputy Gerard Clifford Lemmens Baudains of St. Clement –
- to agree that appropriate amendments should be made to the Public Finances (Jersey) Law 2005 to provide that responsibility for exercising the rights and responsibilities associated with the shares owned by the States in any company, which was currently vested in the Minister for Treasury and Resources alone in accordance with the provisions of Article 68(1) of the Law, should in future be vested in a new panel chaired by the Minister and comprising one Assistant Minister and 2 States members who were not Ministers or Assistant Ministers appointed by the States; and
- to request the Minister for Treasury and Resources to bring forward for approval the necessary amendments to legislation to give effect to the proposal.

THE STATES commenced consideration of a proposition of Deputy Geoffrey Peter Southern of St. Helier , requesting the Minister for Social Security to extend the insolvency scheme to enable the Minister, in consultation with the Viscount, if appropriate, to use discretion to make payments to workers who had been made redundant without the payment of statutory notice by businesses that had stopped trading even if the businesses had not yet been declared insolvent.
