THE STATES commenced consideration of a proposition of Deputy Catherine Dolores Curtis of St. Helier Central entitled Pets in rental properties' (P.70/2024) and, adopting an amendment of Deputy David James Warr of St. Helier South (P.70/2024 Amd.) agreed that the words "for approval" should be deleted; that, for the words "any necessary legislative changes to ensure", there should be substituted the words "guidance to tenants and landlords so"; that, after the word "permitted", there should be inserted "to request"; and that, for the word "legislation", there should be substituted the word "guidance".

THE STATES, adopting the proposition of Deputy Catherine Dolores Curtis of St. Helier Central , as amended, requested the Minister for Housing to bring forward, before 31st March 2025, guidance to tenants and landlords so that any tenant of a rental property would be permitted to request to keep, or acquire, a pet or pets unless the landlord of the property provided a reasonable reason for not permitting this, and for the criteria determining these reasons to be defined within the relevant guidance.
