BUDGET 2004: THIRD AMENDMENT ____________
PAGE 28 AND 29 –
To increase the estimate of revenue expenditure of the Economic Development Committee from £18,537,500 to £18,721,500 by adding –
£ 1 8 4 ,000 to enable the dairy industry to provide free school milk.
DEPUTY G.P. SOUTHERN OF ST. HELIER
REPORT
Following extensive debate earlier in the year on the issue of the continuation of the funding for school milk, this house voted overwhelmingly in favour of continuing support through the years 2004 and 2005. The Finance and Economics Committee was asked to find these funds and to direct them through the budget of the Economic Development Committee. A notable element of the debate was the insistence of many speakers that the funding should not be at the expense of other support for the dairy industry. At the time of writing I have received no concrete assurance from either Committee that this funding has been found. Thus I bring this amendment to ensure that the wishes of the Assembly are made concrete.
There are no additional manpower implications for the States if the free school milk service is continued. The financial implications are evident.
