Lodged au Greffe on 5th December 2014
by the Minister for Education, Sport and Culture
STATES GREFFE
2014 Price code: A P.167
PROPOSITION
THE STATES are asked to decide whether they are of opinion
to re-appoint Mr. Alan Le Breton as Chairman of the Jersey Arts Trust for a second consecutive 4 year term permitted under the Trust's constitution.
MINISTER FOR EDUCATION, SPORT AND CULTURE
REPORT
The States confirmed the appointment of Mr. Alan Le Breton as Chairman of the Jersey Arts Trust on 21st July 2010, following a public process overseen by the Jersey Appointments Commission.
A further period of 4 years is permitted under the Trust's constitution and the Minister for Education, Sport and Culture has received a request from the Trust that Mr. Le Breton be re-appointed for a second term. Mr. Le Breton has indicated his willingness to continue as Chairman.
During his tenure, the activities of the Jersey Arts Trust have flourished. The Trust has contributed significantly to the artistic life of the Island, establishing itself as an arts development agency which not only assesses and dispenses grants to local organisations and individuals but also runs a successful programme to support the development of artistic talent in the Island. It has attracted supplementary funding from a number of sources to augment the core support it receives from the DfESC.
Notable projects have included a range of residencies and workshops, some in collaboration with other bodies including the Jersey Arts Centre, Jersey Opera House and Jersey Heritage, a highly successful open studios programme for Jersey artists, artistic exchanges with France and the establishing of fruitful relationships with visiting artists from a number of countries. The Trust has also created a number of opportunities for Jersey artists and performers to develop their talent outside the Island.
Under Mr. Le Breton's chairmanship, the Trust has worked very effectively with the DfESC and with a range of stakeholder bodies. In proposing Mr. Le Breton for a further term as chairman, I should like to record my gratitude for the commitment he has already made to the Trust and to say that I look forward personally to the continuing relationship for a further term.
