Question

  1. Does the Committee intend to ask the States toreduce further the residential qualification period in Jersey and, if so, when does the Committee plan to bring the draft Regulations to the Statesandbyhow many years will it berecommending that theperiod is reduced?
  2. Does the Committeepossessanalysiswhich accurately depicts how a reduction in a year by year basison housing qualifications would impact the housingmarketin Jersey and, if so, would the President supply memberswith its up-to-date projections?

  1. The HousingCommitteehas agreed to approve a Reportand Proposition at its nextmeetingon the 8th May 2003, seeking the approval of the States to reduce the current 17yearsrequired in the Regulations to16 years.

It is not easy to accurately predict the actual effect ontheHousingmarketof any particular reductionin this period of residence astherearemanyvariable factors linked with the supply and demand of residential accommodation available atany particular time.However,my Committee will supply, in the Reportand Proposition referred toinmyanswerto (a), the relevantfactsand figures that are available.
