QUESTION TO BE ASKED OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE ON TUESDAY 18th MARCH 2003, BY SENATOR E.P. VIBERT

Question

  1. Would the President inform members of the full cost, including publication of the report, of the recent study carried out into building a conference centre atFortRegentbytheJerseyConference Bureau?;
  2. would the President inform members whether or not the Jersey Conference Bureau liaised with the Education, Sport and Culture Committee during this process?;
  3. would thePresident inform memberswhen the Jersey ConferenceBureaubecameawareofplansbythe Education, Sport and Culture Committee to research a proposal tomovecertain facilities from Fort Regentto the LeRocquierSchool site?

Answer

  1. The full cost of the conference study is £25,000. The report is beingfundedby the TourismDevelopment Fund.
  2. The former Sport, Leisure and Recreation Committee and senior officersof that department were aware that the  study was being prepared and  had previously  been shown  copies of architects visuals and outline proposals for the conference centre within the Queen's Hall .
  3. The Jersey Conference Bureau were not aware of the plans of the then Sport, Leisure and Recreation Committee to move facilities from Fort Regent to Le Rocquier School.TheConferenceBureaureceived the information when it was released tothepublicin Jersey on21stNovember 2003, via the media.
