Question

  1. Would the President confirm that ithas been decided not to proceed with a full conservation plan on the historical importanceofFortRegentpriorto a feasibility studybeingcarried out, todeterminewhetherornot private enterprise could take overtheFortanddevelopitcommercially?

If the answer to (a) is in the affirmative, would the President advise members

  1. whether a specialist consultant has been engaged to carry out a more rapid overview of conservation constraint and opportunities inthe form of a conservation statement, and, ifso, at what cost to the States? and,
  2. whether liaison has taken place with the Jersey HeritageTrustor the Société Jersiaise overthematterof a conservation plan.

The advice of the Environment and Public Services Department's Assistant Director - Design and Conservation, isthat,at this stage, the onlyrequirement is to prepare a Conservation Statement, to inform the selected consultants for the Feasibility Study. It will be a matter for the Environment and PublicServices Committee todeterminewhether a Conservation Plan or a ConservationStatement is appropriateat a later stage.

I c an confirm that, on the recommendation of the Assistant Director - Design and Conservation, a specialist

consultant has been commissioned to produce a Conservation Statement at a cost of £11,300.
