Question

Would the President inform members

( a ) w h e ther leachate is still being collected from Beauport and, if so, how much longer it is anticipated

that this will have to continue?

( b ) of the total volume of leachate collected, and the cost of collection and disposal, in 2003? ( c ) of the total volume collected since the leachate problem was identified in the 1990's?

( d ) of the total cost, since the problem was first identified, of collection, treatment, disposal and storage of

the leachate, plus the cost of any remedial works to date?

Answer

  1. Leachateis still being collected from Beauport and itisanticipated that this may need to continue foran additional 15 to 18years.
  2. The total volumeof leachate collected was1.1 million gallons.Thecost for tankering this volume was £18,360.
  3. The averageannualvolume is approximately 1 million gallons perannumwhich equates to 12 million gallons since1992.
  4. The original cost estimate was for £150,000 ongoing costs are approximately £20,000 per annum for tankering and £8,900 per annum for operationofthepumping station. Maintenanceandremedialworks continue on an asrequiredbasis with recent civil works modifications totalling £11,500 in 2003.
