Question
Would the President inform members –
- whether the ongoingmatter of the Jersey Fishing fleet, who have applied to fish inGuernsey waters, has been resolved, thereby enabling Jersey Fishermen to fishin Guernsey waters, and,ifnot,would he advisewhat actions the Committee is taking to progressmatters, and, in particular, topursue the legal action ifnecessary? and,
- whether the fishing industry is to receive any aid tocoverlossesofearnings? Answer
- The Guernsey Fishing Vessel licensing scheme was found to be ultra vires in the 3 – 12 mile zone around Guernsey but is active in the 0 – 3 mile limit. Any Jersey fishing vessel may again fish in the 3 – 12 mile band while 11 successful applicants may also fish in the 0 – 3 mile limit.
T h e issue is not resolved and the Committee is actively involved in discussions with the relevant Committee
in Guernsey. The Committee is not taking legal action concerning this matter.
- The Industry is not in the process of receiving States aid to cover loss of earnings, however it is for individuals to decidewhetherto take action intheGuernsey courts.
