WRITTEN QUESTION TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE HARBOURS AND AIRPORT COMMITTEE BY THE DEPUTY OF ST. JOHN
ANSWER TO BE TABLED ON TUESDAY 13th SEPTEMBER 2005 Question
"Would the President inform members –
- whytheCommitteehas introduced Airport parkingchargesforsomecommercial transport providers, such as coach companiesbutnot to others such asConnex, private hire or taxis, rather than introduce a level playing field forall?
- why the Committeechosetorevokecard passes tocoachcompaniesduringAugust(2005)rather than at a time outof the main tourist seasonwhen negotiations might causelessimpacton the travelling public? and,
- whether the Committee will review the matterandput in place a level playing field for all commercialusers at the Airport?"
Answer
"(a) Charges for all users of the short and long-term car parks were introduced in 2003 subsequent to the States
approving projet P.198.2002. Any coach, bus, private hire vehicle, taxi or private vehicle using these facilities, subject to very minor exceptions, is liable for this charge. Therefore, the level playing now exists, whereas before 2003 it did not.
T h e Committee would wish to make a modest charge for the facilities provided and maintained for the taxis
and cabs at Jersey Airport but feels at this time unable to do so because the technology is not yet available at a cost effective price and a surcharge is already made on taxis as approved by the Home Affairs Committee.
I t is not the Committee's intention to charge the public bus service.
- Nocardpasseswererevoked during August 2005 noratany other time.
- The Committee will continue tokeepthematterunderreview."
