WRITTEN QUESTION TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE HARBOURS AND AIRPORT COMMITTEE BY THE DEPUTY OF ST. JOHN
ANSWER TO BE TABLED ON TUESDAY 1st MARCH 2005
Question
Would the President advise members –
- how many boats aremoored respectively in the English, French and Old Harbours and give details ofwhat facilities exist for car parking whilst ownersuse their boats, especially during the week period?
- whypermit parking restrictions nowapplytothe slipways in the EnglishandFrenchHarbours, and whether boat usersand other interested groups, such as the yacht clubs andmarine industry, were consulted in advance?
Answer
- There are 45dryingmoorings in the English Harbour, 35 in theFrenchHarbour and 420 in theremaining drying areas ofSt Helier Harbour.
T h ere is parking generally available ad hoc to both the public and boat owners alike.
- Port Parking Permits have been requiredfor a numberofyears, following consultation withboat owners, for parking on the slipway in the English Harbour. This is available to boat ownershaving moorings nearbyin order to discouragecommutersand others with no harbourconnections.
R ecently, a number of cars being advertised for sale were found on the French Harbour slipway and,
therefore, the permit arrangement is in the process of being extended to this area for the benefit of the boat owners. Overlooking the English Harbour, there already exists three hour parking, but during working hours only. Thus it is available for boat owners in the evenings, public holidays and weekends.
