2.1 Deputy G.P. Southern of St. Helier of the Chief Minister regarding the progress made in developing individualised Retail Price Index rates, in particular a rate for Pensioners: Will the Chief Minister advise Members what progress, if any, has been made with the development of individualised Retail Price Index rates, in particular a rate for pensioners which he agreed to investigate earlier in the year?
Senator F.H. Walker (The Chief Minister):
In response to a question without notice from the Deputy on 16th January 2007 I indicated that the
concept of personalised inflation rates, particularly for pensioners, merited investigation. I
subsequently asked the Head of Statistics to research the matter and he has informed me that publication of such an index is feasible by the end of the year. Thanks to the excellent response to the Household Expenditure Survey by the people of Jersey we are now better placed than ever before to provide such detailed information and to develop social policy based on the economic needs of Jersey households, particularly the most vulnerable in our community.
2.1.1 Deputy G.P. Southern :
If I may, Sir? Yes, I heard it is feasible to do by the end of the year; is it the Chief Minister's intention to publish this figure?
Senator F.H. Walker : Yes, Sir.
