WRITTEN QUESTION TO THE MINISTER FOR THE CHIEF MINISTER BY DEPUTY M.R. HIGGINS OF ST. HELIER
ANSWER TO BE TABLED ON TUESDAY 2ND JUNE 2009
Question
"Given that the current unemployment statistics lack important economic data which would assist the monitoring of policy making and the evaluation of policy measures, would the Chief Minister agree to take action to ensure that relevant information pertaining the number of people who are unemployed, the skills they have and the sectors of the economy in which they were employed is gathered and published as a matter of urgency by the Statistics Unit?"
Answer
Information on people who are registered as unemployed in Jersey is compiled by the Social Security Department. The independent Statistics Unit is currently liaising with this Department in order to produce a monthly publication on registered unemployment in the Island. The first issue will be available as soon as is possible.
