Question

Will the Minister release to members the policies under which Andium Homes operates to supply affordable housing to the people of Jersey with particular reference to the allocation of housing through the Gateway?

What differences, if any, are there between these policies and those which apply to private sector social landlords?

Answer

The Housing Gateway, as overseen by the Strategic Housing Unit, is the sole means of accessing the housing provided by the below social housing providers, and applies a uniform set of eligibility criteria in doing so.

• Andium Homes

• Christians Together in Jersey Housing Trust

• Clos du Paradis Housing Trust

• FB Cottages Housing Trust

• Jersey Homes Trust

• Les Vaux Housing Trust

To qualify for the Gateway, applicants must be able to demonstrate that they:

• have a medical, physical or mental disability that requires them to have a special type of housing

• are a family with young children on relatively low incomes

• are aged 50 years and over on relatively low incomes

Other criteria, such as level of income, whether an applicant owns a property already, pregnancy, and homelessness, will also be accounted for when assessing an applicant's eligibility.

In accepting an applicant on to the Gateway, a banding system is used to identify their priority within the allocations process. The social housing providers take people from these bandings in order of greatest need, length of wait, and suitability for the property.
