WRITTEN QUESTION TO THE MINISTER FOR SOCIAL SECURITY BY DEPUTY G.P. SOUTHERN OF ST. HELIER
ANSWER TO BE TABLED ON TUESDAY 21st APRIL 2020
Question
In respect of the Covid Related Emergency Support Scheme, will the Minister –
- provide an estimate of the number of workers who are now unemployed, who have been resident in the Island for less than 5 years, and who are therefore eligible for this benefit;
- state how many people have applied for this scheme;
- state how many of those considered eligible are estimated to be in some form of tied accommodation linked to the job they have lost; and
- advise how much it is estimated will be spent through the scheme to alleviate hardship?
Answer
- The potential number of applicants to the Covid Related Emergency Support Scheme (CRESS) has been estimated taking into account the likely maximum take-up of the Payroll Co-Funding Scheme. The funding for CRESS is based on an estimate of 400 claimants.
- 237 people have applied for CRESS.
- This information is not collected as part of the application process.
- A one-off budget of £710,000 has been allocated to the scheme.
