Senator T.A. Vallois will ask the following question of the Minister for Children and Education –
"Will the Minister advise whether the Hope House facility is being considered as an alternative to Greenfields and, if not, will he state what the barriers are that currently prevent this from happening?" WQ.163/2021
The following response was provided in writing in accordance with Standing Order 63(9) as the oral question was not asked before the end of the time allowed for Oral Questions:
The Hope House facility is not being considered as an alternative to Greenfields, as Greenfields is a Secure Children's Home and Hope House is a 28-day residential treatment programme focused on resilience and preventative wellbeing initiatives such as structure, exercise, coping skills. It is registered as a Children's Home but is not a Secure Children's Home and therefore cannot legally be used as an alternative to Greenfields.
The barriers preventing the use of Hope House as a secure facility are that the Hope House Statement of Purpose registered with The Care Commission limits their ability to take in children outside of the prescribed 28-day programme.
